Asteroid April
2020?
Okay okay okay!!! So you want to know what is the
Asteroid, what it will do? Will it affect the earth? Or it will pass out with
keeping a long-distance? So for you, I make this blog post after reading I am
sure that you will understand what is it and what will it do…….after reading if
any questions occur simply ask me in below comment section
Did you listen? The buzz about a big asteroid that’ll pass relatively
close to Earth in April? Asteroid (52768) 1998 OR2 will
pass at a safe distance, at some 4 million miles (6 million km), or about 16
times the Earth-moon distance. It’s big – the biggest asteroid due to fly by
Earth this year – and will come closest to Earth on April 29, 2020. Astronomers
at Arecibo Observatory in
Puerto Rico plan to study it from April 8 to 24, as it travels through space at
19,461 miles per hour (31,320 km/h).
WHEN:
The closest approach will be April 29 around 11:26 a.m. {IST}. Professional observatories have been pointing their
telescopes at the huge space rock already.
FUTURE
CASES:
There will be closer approaches of asteroids in the future, including Apophis,
which – although smaller – will pass very close to Earth in 2029. Another, the larger space rock – 2 miles (3 km) wide – designated as asteroid (415029) 2011
UL21 will pass slightly farther than (52768) 1998 OR2 in June 2024.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potentially_hazardous_object
But the upcoming flyby in April 2020 of the asteroid
(52768) 1998 OR2 is the most significant-close approach of an asteroid until
2027, as another huge asteroid known as (4953) 1990 MU will safely pass by Earth
at 12 lunar distances.
What is the fact actually?
Ø
The warning by NASA that talks about an
asteroid hitting the Earth on April 29, 2020.
Ø
There are the viral message that state that
a huge section of humans will be wiped out from around the globe.
Ø Some
messages also state that the Earth will be partially hit and that
will put everyone’s life in danger.
WHERE THE NEWS CAME
FROM:
Ø
Many Facebook users started sharing a video
by Headlines India and captioned it saying that the world is going to end on
April 29.
Ø
Many WhatsApp users forwarding the same news in
different terms and with mixing their thought in that.
Ø
Few online portals had also misinterpreted
the official NASA news leading to a state of panic amongst people reading
Ø
Astronomers first discovered asteroid
(52768) 1998 OR2 on July 24, 1998, from Haleakala OBSERVATORY
SIZE
OF THE ASTEROID:
Asteroid 2020 GH2 is about between 43 and 70 feet (13-70 meters) wide,
or about the size of a detached house, according to data from the Centre
for Near-Earth Object Studies at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
It was first discovered on Saturday (April 11) and is being tracked by astronomers
at several observatories, including the Catalina Sky Survey at Mount Lemmon in
Arizona.
KELLY used a tennis ball as the
moon and a basketball as the Earth, placing them 25 feet (7 meters) apart in a
hallway — the scale distance between the Earth and moon. At that scale, a huge
asteroid like the one that doomed the dinosaurs would be the size of a grain of
salt, fast said. This space rock is probably at least a mile wide (1.8 km) and
maybe 2 1/2 times that long (4.1 km).
WHY
THERE IS NO MATTER TO FRIGHTENED:
Let me make it absolutely clear that there’s no chance of a
collision between this asteroid and Earth. It’s true the object is classified
as a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid. The Centre for Near-Earth Objects defines such
an object as one that comes as close to Earth as:
The Asteroid is passing at a safe distance of 3.9 million miles (6.2
million km). Scientists with NASA's Planetary Defence Program and around the
world regularly observe the skies for new and known asteroids that might pose a
danger to Earth.
An asteroid about 500 feet (140 m) or larger with an orbit that brings
it within 4.7 million miles (7.5 million km) of Earth is classified as a potentially hazardous asteroid, NASA officials have said. As of 2019, scientists have
discovered about 19,000 near-Earth asteroids, with about 30 newfound asteroids
added each week.
“potentially hazardous" asteroid is poised to fly by Earth on 29th,
but don't worry — it poses no threat to Earth.
At its closest approach, which will happen at about 5:56 a.m. EDT (0956
GMT), asteroid 1998 OR2 will be 3.9 million miles (6.3 million km) from Earth. That's more than 16 times the average distance between
Earth and the moon.
According to NASA, ‘an asteroid qualifies
as "potentially hazardous’ if its orbit ever intersects Earth's orbit at a
distance less than 4.6 million miles (7.5 million km), or 0.05 astronomical
units, the average distance between Earth and the sun.”
None of the 22
Potentially Hazardous Asteroids listed by Wikipedia is known to be on a
collision course with Earth in the foreseeable future. Likewise, asteroid
(52768) 1998 OR2 isn’t on a collision course with Earth, not anytime soon. The
orbit of this asteroid is well known for at least the next 200 years. Its
closest approach to Earth in this century and the next will happen in 2079,
when it’ll swoop to within about a million miles of Earth (still about four
times farther away than the moon).
A newly discovered an asteroid about the size of a house will zip safely by Earth on Wednesday (April
15), passing just inside the orbit of the moon.
The asteroid 2020 GH2
will pass Earth at a range of about 223,000 miles (359,000 kilometers).
The average distance from the Earth to the moon is about 239,000 miles (385,000
km).
That 2079 sweep past
Earth will still be a big deal. Asteroid (52768) 1998 OR2 is the largest known
of all
TECHNICAL CLASSIFICATION:
Asteroid (52768) 1998 OR2 will make a close approach to Earth on April
29. The hefty space rock has an estimated diameter of 1.1 to 2.5 miles (1.8 to
4.1 kilometers), or about the width of the isle of Manhattan.
